Marco Polo's elusive Silk Road beckons. A good part of it lurks somewhere in China I am told. So I am metamorphising into a teacher of English before your very eyes. Maybe the Chinese will teach me how to speak proper and spell rite. I hope to cross to Asia in the boat who wouldn't float. Is there really a Shangri-la at the end of the rainbow?

For the first few years of life I scampered around "The Rock", aka Newfoundland and within a stone's throw of the most easterly tip of North America. Then it was off to the British Isles for an education with subsequent stops in France and even China for six months. Currently I call the cottage country north of Toronto home. I have retired from working at Bethune Memorial House National Historic Site of Canada. Our old visitor centre (demolished in July 2011) was once the residence of the most penalized player in the National Hockey League, Howie Young. Put em up there young whippersnapper and let an old dog teach you new tricks!
